Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Gemstones & Wyoming Treasures

What makes Wyoming gemstones special?

Wyoming gemstones come from the ancient Wyoming Craton, one of Earth's oldest geological formations dating back over 2.5 billion years. These unique conditions create gemstones with exceptional characteristics you won't find anywhere else. Learn more in our Wyoming Source Story.

Are your gemstones natural or treated?

All our gemstones are 100% natural and untreated. We believe in showcasing the raw beauty that nature has created over billions of years. Each stone comes with detailed information about its natural characteristics and provenance.

How do I know my gemstone is authentic?

Every gemstone comes with documented provenance from our Wyoming mining operations. Our family's direct involvement in the mining process ensures complete transparency and authenticity. We provide certificates of authenticity and recommend third-party appraisals for high-value purchases.

Why do some stones have inclusions or aren't "perfect"?

We don't discard "imperfect" stones. Wyoming gemstones are valued for their provenance, authenticity, and geological integrity rather than commercial grading standards. Inclusions like silk, rutile, and mineral traces are geological signatures—proof of deep time and authentic origin. We celebrate the full spectrum of what Wyoming's ancient geology creates. A stone doesn't need to be eye-clean to be powerful or beautiful.

What's the difference between rough and faceted gemstones?

Rough gemstones are in their natural, uncut state as we find them. Faceted gemstones have been professionally cut and polished. We primarily offer rough and natural specimens. We work with local partners throughout North America for custom cutting services if desired.

What are your shipping options?

Domestic US shipping includes USPS First Class (3-5 days, from $4.50), Priority Mail (2-3 days, from $9.00), and Priority Express (1-2 days, from $26.00). All orders include tracking. Orders over $100 are automatically insured. See our full Shipping & Returns Policy.

How are gemstones packaged?

Each gemstone is carefully packaged in protective materials and shipped in secure boxes. We take great care to ensure your stones arrive safely.

Returns & Exchanges

What is your return policy?

14 days from delivery for eligible returns. Due to the unique, one-of-a-kind nature of natural gemstones, we maintain strict return policies. Returns are accepted ONLY for: damaged in transit (report within 48 hours), incorrect item received, or significant misrepresentation. Please review our complete Shipping & Returns Policy before ordering.

Can I return a stone if I change my mind?

No. "Changed my mind," color/clarity variations from photos, natural inclusions, or metaphysical properties not meeting expectations are NOT valid reasons for return. All stones are photographed as accurately as possible, but natural variations exist.

Can I return a stone I've used or cleansed?

No. Once a stone has been energetically worked with (cleansed, charged, programmed, placed on an altar, used in grids, etc.), it cannot be returned. We consider this similar to "used" merchandise.

What if my gemstone arrives damaged?

Contact us immediately (within 48 hours) at info@pinkmistyminerals.com with photos. We'll file a claim and send a replacement or issue a refund.

Are custom orders returnable?

No. Custom orders, special requests, personalized items, and sale/clearance items are final sale.

Gemstone Care & Use

How should I care for my Wyoming gemstone?

Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners. Store separately to prevent scratching. Recharge under moonlight or with sage for metaphysical purposes. Each gemstone comes with specific care instructions. See our Crystal Healing Properties Guide for more details.

How do I use gemstones in crystal grids?

Check out our Sacred Geometry Grid Guide for detailed instructions on choosing patterns, placing stones, and activating your grids.

Can I have my gemstone custom cut or faceted?

We do not facet gemstones in-house, but we work with trusted partners locally and throughout North America. Contact us for custom cutting referrals.

Our Mining Operation

Where exactly do you mine your gemstones?

We operate in the Southern Rocky Mountains of Wyoming, specifically in the ancient geological formations of the Wyoming Craton including the Laramie Mountain Range and Medicine Bow Range. Learn the full story in our Wyoming Source Story.

What does 'ethically mined' mean?

Ethical mining means we use hand tools and responsible practices that minimize environmental impact, work with proper permits, take only what we can responsibly process, and leave sites as pristine as we found them. We're a mother-son family operation committed to sustainable practices and complete transparency.

Who mines the gemstones?

Our mother-son team personally discovers, hand-selects, and documents every gemstone. Each stone has been touched by our family, ensuring authenticity and quality.

Pricing & Value

Why are prices different for similar-looking stones?

Each stone is unique and priced based on size, clarity, color saturation, rarity, and geological significance. Even similar stones can vary in value based on these factors.

Are gemstones a good investment?

Rare gemstones, especially those from unique sources like the Wyoming Craton, can appreciate in value over time. However, gemstone investments carry inherent risks. We recommend purchasing stones you love first, investment potential second.

Do you provide appraisals?

We provide detailed information about each stone's characteristics and origin. For insurance or investment purposes, we recommend third-party certified appraisals from qualified gemologists.
