Why We Price by Carat

Unlike most gemstones sold by gram or piece, ruby is priced by carat weight — and for good reason. Ruby has one of the highest densities of any gemstone (approximately 4.0 g/cm³), meaning it weighs significantly more than it looks. A ruby that appears small can carry substantial carat weight, and that weight reflects real, rare material.

At Pink Misty Minerals & Gems, we price all of our rough ruby by the carat to give you an accurate, fair, and transparent measure of exactly what you're receiving — no guesswork, no filler.

The Rarity of American-Sourced Ruby

True American ruby is exceptionally rare. Our rough is hand-extracted from our own claims in small batches — meaning every stone you receive has been personally selected by us from the ground up. We do not source from overseas suppliers or resell imported material. What you get is genuine, traceable, small-batch American ruby rough with a real provenance story.

Micro Fines

• Sub-1 ct stones, under 1mm — genuine American ruby

Small Parcel — Under 2 ct/stone

• Up to 5 hand-selected stones per parcel
• 5–9.5 ct total parcel weight
• $25 per carat | 5 ct minimum ($125)
• Price range: $125–$237 per parcel
• Parcel pricing requires a minimum 5 ct purchase. Individual stones under 5 ct are priced separately.

Individual Stones — 2 to under 3 ct

• Sold independently online — not bundled
• $50–$60 per carat
• Price range: $100–$180 per stone
• Ideal for setting, collecting, or small faceting projects

Premium Individual Stones — 3 ct and above

• Exceptionally rare American ruby — priced per stone
• Starting at $250/stone for 3 ct
• 4 ct and above priced individually based on quality and character
